The aim of this workshop was to provide the participant with an overview of some recent progress in non-intrusive measurements applied to unsteady flows, aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. This forum followed on from various workshops organized by the Pprime Institute held annually that have covered diverse topics including flow control, material analysis, and volume reconstruction. This year, the workshop focused on all aspects of optical diagnostics of load and pressure evaluation. The fields of interest were unsteady aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, flapping wings, mobile energy recovery systems, animal locomotion, and flow control. This workshop was also a dissemination activity in the European Framework NIOPLEX (FP7 Non-intrusive Optical Pressure and Loads Extraction for Aerodynamic Analysis, http://nioplex.eu).

The participants came from around the world (US, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Russia, and other European countries) and were privileged to have three engaging keynote lectures from prominent researchers, D. Protas, T. Suzuki and M. Dickinson. 34 papers were presented.

We sincerely appreciate the various national and European proposals which, along with the Pprime Institute and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), have helped us to organize this event. We would like also to thank the University of Poitiers, the 14th CPER-FEDER, Grand Poitiers and the Région Poitou-Charentes for their facilities and their financial support. This dissemination event has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under Grant Agreement No 605151 (NIOPLEX project).
